Busy day!

On our final session at bible study a few days ago, the Children's Ministry prepared a little performance for us mom's. Last year Lauren was too young to participate, but this year she got to join. And I use that term verrrry loosely because she didn't join in on the singing or dancing (shocking, eh?). She hid behind the other kids, stared at the big lights overhead, and looked kinda dazed and confused :)

But gosh darnit, she was up on that stage!

It's a bit like finding Waldo, so good luck :)

And when that was over, we headed to Lauren's PreK class to join in on their Thanksgiving brunch. There was turkey sandwiches, fruit, veggies and dip, pumpkin pie and juice. Jake got to join in, and he did SO well. He sat nicely at the table and followed all directions, which is a great thing since he'll be joining Lauren in January.

Oh, and the Hubster came too, which made both kids very happy :)

After their "feast", they got to play and listen to some Thanksgiving stories:

Fun busy day!

My ear drums are bleeding...

Why you ask? Because that's all I hear these days... "Why mommy? Why?"

It used to be just Lauren asking, "From what will happen if...", which is her way of asking 'why?'

But now, little man is asking 'why?' constantly. Like every 3 minutes. Seriously.

Can I just say what a BLAST it is to be stuck in the car with these two? One will ask a question and the minute I answer it, the other is asking, "why mommy? Why?"

Set of earplugs, here I come! ;)

Dear Jacob...

Dear Jacob,

I can hardly believe that today you turn two years old! Time has flown and you have changed so much right before our very eyes. Your biggest accomplishment in the last year has been talking. You often speak in sentences now, and you are an absolute chatterbox. I think we can thank your sister for that one ;)

Additionally, you are quite the bully rebellious one. No one messes with Jake. You hit. You kick. You've been known to bite. You throw a mean tantrum. And you get a whole lot of recovery time. You know you will get in trouble, and you do it anyway. You definitely have my stubborn gene. At the end of it all though, you always say you're "sowwy" and you give hugs. It's not perfect, but we're working on your ahem, impulsiveness.

Everyone that comes into contact with you exclaims just how cute you are, and you definitely know how to turn on the charm when you want to. You have this adorable, blond curly hair and a smile that lights up the room. And those times when you are not being so good, I still think you're pretty stinkin' cute and have a hard time hiding it.

I love spending time with you because you are a really fun, adventurous boy. And now that sister's in PreK for a few hours twice a week, you and I get some alone time. You discover new things everyday. As a matter of fact, you know how to use your potty chair, and our goal for the next six months is to have you out of those diapers. And actually, you're close to being ready. You have pee'd and pooped on the potty (proudly might add), so we're definitely heading in the right direction.

I love you so much, little man. You are truly a blessing to our family, and I know that your sister loves having you around and playing with you and teaching you new things. You are so special... you always will be. And I pray that everyone who knows you in your life can truly appreciate you and all that you have to offer because I know that it will be so much. Never forget how much daddy, myself and sissy love you, and always will, no matter what.

Happy birthday, shakey Jakey.

I love you,
Mama

Here are few of the qualities and quirks that I want to remember about you at this age:

-You still suck your first two fingers. This is so a part of who you are.

- God forbid you get a strand of hair on your fingers or toes because you FREAK out and yell, "yucky! Yucky! Hep (help) me mama!"

- You are such a rough and tumble kind of boy. You have bruises on every limb and you are constantly telling us "you bumped". And yet, you do the same daredevil stunts over and over again.... like jumping off the changing table with no warning. ::sigh:: You're a big fan of giving me the early stages of a heart attack.

- If I try to convince you to try something new, you always say, "no mommy, NO!". Same thing happens if daddy or sissy tries to tell you to do something. Have I mentioned how stubborn you are?!?

- You are pretty nosey these days. Everything is "Whaaa happened?" or if you get hurt, "whaaa happened to Jakey?"

- You still adore Moose. That ratty old 'moosey b' comes everywhere with us, and if you have misplaced him by accident, you become frantic searching for him. So frantic, in fact, that the rest of the family joins you in finding him ASAP.

- Your lip still quivers when you're hurt or sad or scared. The vacuum does this to you every time, and I often have to take breaks from vacuuming to come and comfort you. But I secretly don't mind :)

- You have an unnatural obsession with my lip gloss. You always say "yip goss?" and hold out your hands when you see me applying some. Or if you smell it in the back seat, you beg to get your mitts on it.

- You are SUCH a picky eater. You don't do Mac n cheese, PB&J, lunch meat... none of the usual 'kid food'. And forget veggies. You live on fruit, bread, and yogurt. You are definitely your fathers child in this respect.

- If anyone makes a sad face, or better yet begins to cry (fake or not), you rush over to give smooches. Then you often follow it up with "all better, mommy?"

- You are a fabulous sleeper. You still nap every single day without a peep. Nap time is at 12:30ish, and you easily sleep til 3:30-4pm. Bedtime is at 7ish, and again, we lay you down awake in your crib, and you fall asleep without issue. I LOVE this about you.

- You have really good manners, well, when you're not being stubborn. You're quick to dish out the 'please's' and 'thank you's' and when you're walking by someone, you say "'cuse me" without hesitation.

- And my favorite, you are the world biggest copycat. If sister is kissing her 'white b', you instantly lean down to kiss 'moose'. If she coughs, you begin hacking. If she needs to go potty, you suddenly feel the urge too. But if for one second anyone tries to tell you to do what sissy is doing, you won't do it. It has to be on your terms only.

"Bigger girl" bed

Ever since we bought Lauren a toddler bed, she's always wanted us to read her naptime/bedtime stories in bed with her. Well, we're not exactly 30 lbs. and neither the Hubster or I are comfy craning our necks to read to Lauren while she lays in her bed.

So, after a lot of consideration, we bought her her forever bed. I say this because it really is perfect for her and it will last her a very looooong time (it's a full so she's have plenty of room to grow into it). Sure, it's MUCH larger than her toddler bed and takes up most room, but she doesn't play in her room as it is (most likely because we have a toy store playroom).

But the best parts (besides the fact that we can lay with her comfortably to read stories), are that 1) it's a trundle bed so that as she gets older, friends can stay and 2) it's a canopy bed! We don't have the canopy up right now, mainly because I think it'll lose it's cool if I introduce it to her at this stage, but I'm excited to make it her "princess bed" as she gets older!

Anyways, I'm in love... and best of all, so is she :) Heck, even Jake liked it and fought going to bed in his crib tonight!
