Not only because he's a wonderful husband, a great daddy and a man of God, but because he will do whatever it takes me please me. And how can you go wrong with that?!?
A few months ago I mentioned that one day I would love to hire someone to build a built-in shelf/entertainment center in our media niche. Well, he did some research and came up with a plan (with the help of my friend Sarah's hubby). After 2 weeks of planning, creating and staining, it's complete and I'm in L-O-V-E.
Before:
During:
After (it appears black, although it's mahogany like the kitchen cabinets and mantle):
I think it's perfect... especially coming from a man who specializes in networks and all things mechanical. And he says he "doesn't do wood work." Pffff....
Not anymore "he doesn't do woodwork". I'm already planning his next project ;)

More Lauren-isms
1) This morning, we were talking about cats. Then Lauren rattled something off about bathing them and washing off their paws. Then she says, "mommy, can we go to the cut store to see the cat have a haircut? Like I go to the cut store to get my hairs cut?"
Two of my favorite parts... "cut store" and "hairs cut".
2) Last night when I was giving Lauren a bath, she used her shoe lace to "do doctoring". She's obsessed with "doctoring" lately, so we read the "Dora Gets a Check Up" book and practice a lot of the things they do in that book. Anyways, she gets her string and says, "I just going to check my flexers". I said, "oh, you're going to check your reflexes?". Then she turns, puts one end of the string in her ear and the other end on her knee (pretending it's a stethoscope), and says, "Um, actually, now I just going to listen to my knee's heart".
Knee's heart. HOW CUTE IS THAT?!?

Just in case you don't believe me...
I've said before that Jacob is the most disgusting, messy eater I know. I've even documented it here and here. But just in case you don't believe me, here's another messy story.
This morning the kiddos and I had a "'pecial treat" which consisted of strawberries and a bit of whipped cream. With Lauren, I can leave the whipped cream out and let her dip them. I'm usually not this lazy spontaneous about leaving the whole tub out, but Lauren thought it was fun to "dip dip my berries in da cweam". So she daintily dipped them, and wiped her hands on a paper towel if she got her little Princess hands messy ;)
She's my kind of girl ;)
Jacob on the other hand? I turn around for a millisecond and he's not only dunked the whole strawberry in the whipped cream, but he's dipped his entire hand and is in the process of using the cream as body lotion... all over his head, his face, his arms, everywhere.
Seriously.
The boy needs a body-bib.

BUSY day!!
Seriously, it's 1:30 and we just got home moments ago. I'm not sure why I had so much energy today, or why my kids had so much energy today, but since we did, we made pretty good use of it. First we went to their Itty Bits class, where the Brownies played with toys,
and worked on colors and shapes.
Once class was over, we headed out back to the park, where we swung, slid and teeter-tottered.
And then, as if I weren't crazy enough, we went to the library. We sung a few songs, did a silly crafts, and then waited until the main event: CLIFFORD!
Here they are memorized by the Big Red Dog:
And now? NAP time baby!

Love and Logic
You know your daughter is grasping the whole Love and Logic thang when these happen:
a) In the midst of Jacob's tantrum, she walks over to him and calmly says: "Jakey, I think that might be a bad decision."
b) She skipped the whole "why?" stage and immediately went to "what's going to happen if I do this...?"
c) While at the mall today, she walked over and pushed Jacob, moments after warning her no to do it. She walks back to me and says, "uh oh. That was a bad choice, huh?"
d) As we're reading Llama Llama Red Pajama, she points out that the llama (who is throwing a fit), "maybe needs a little room time".
Um yeah, my L & L teacher would be pleased. Very pleased ;)

Disneyland!
Justin took the day off Wednesday and we headed to Disneyland. Sure enough, the weather man was right (I know!) and it did rain. But the good news is, it didn't rain until noonish, so we got a couple hours of ZERO lines. We literally just walked onto the rides all morning long. And we rode on more in those few hours than we had ridden on in a whole day. We all had an awesome time, even if we did get a little wet. But the kids dug jumping in the puddles and playing in the rain, so it didn't phase them.
Here are some of our highlights, starting out in Toon Town:
Riding Dumbo (both kids favorite!):
Riding Roger Rabbit:
Meeting Mickey Mouse and playing in his house:
Meeting Minnie Mouse and playing in her house:
Getting on the spaceship thingies:
and meeting some new friends:
Next month, same thing: Disneyland!! And I hope it does rain again (a little!) so we can do as much as we did today.
