For her birthday this year, we gave Lauren several (low key) options because we don't want our kids believing they should be entitled to full blown Birthday parties every year. We'll do a party every other year or two...
Anyway, this year Lauren wanted two pretty simple things; 1) she wanted to be with her bff Grace (they've been best buds since they were infants; check out this oldie and this one!) and she wanted to swim. But since it's typically cold in March and wouldn't make for good outdoor swimming weather, we did a sleepover at a nearby hotel.
Thankfully, my mom agreed to keep Megan and Jake so we could do a special sleepover with Lauren and her friend. So we picked up Grace, and had a quick dinner (and ice cream for dessert-yum!) before heading to our hotel.
Once inside, Lauren opened Grace's gift,
before they began jumping on the beds like monkeys. That's the best part of being a kid in a hotel if you ask me :)
Within moments, they were begging to swim. So with swimsuits on and pool toys in hand, we headed to the indoor pool/spa where they swam. And swam. And swam some more.
The next morning, they woke up to a continental breakfast, and you guessed it, more swimming for another 4 hours. (FOUR HOURS!)
We spent a total of $80 on the hotel with an indoor pool/spa and continental breakfast included... best money we ever spent on Lauren's Birthday. She was in HEAVEN with Grace and they had the greatest time. I'm thinking this may be something she chooses every year now :)
