Sunday Weigh in

Great week for me!

Starting weight loss: 180.6 lbs.
Last week's weight: 176.8 lbs.
This week's weight: 174.4 lbs.

Weight loss this week: -2.4 lbs.
Total weight loss: -6.2 lbs

Happy Easter everyone! He is RISEN! Amen!

Jesus is ALIVE! art

We made this craft last year and it was one of my favorite Easter decorations, so we made it again this year... with some Everett help :)

Sarah and I taped a cross to some blank construction paper, and then gave the kiddos some brushes and paint. Then they went to town!

Someone liked the paint a little too much!

What?!? You don't create in your Super Hero suit??

When the paint dried, we took off the tape to reveal these crosses:

Last year I wrote 'Jesus is Alive' but since I have big kiddos now, they wrote it out and they're backwards spelling makes it all that more special :)

Happy Resurrection Sunday! He IS Risen!

PreK and Kinder cooking; Letter U

With Lauren's class working on a weather unit and Jake's class working on the letter U, it seemed logical to make Umbrellas!

The idea was simple; I gave them different ingredients to cut up and tear apart (cheese, ham chunks, crackers, marshmallows, etc).

Using a candy straw as the umbrella handle, they combined all of the food items and made patchwork umbrellas. There were some cute ones but they were already eaten before I was able to snap a picture of them :( So this is the only finished product... bet you can't tell a preschooler was the artist here, huh??? :)

Red Bull and milk experiment

I saw this experiment on Pinterest a while back and saved it, knowing how much my kiddos loooooove 'esperiments'.

This one was easy enough and did not disappoint!

We needed 2 ingredients; milk and a can of Red Bull. You see where this is going...

Very easy; pour a cup of milk into a clear glass and add an equal amount of Red Bull.

Within 30 seconds, the milk begins to swirl around and separates, leaving a weird thick, cottage-cheese like texture on top.

The kids had fun poking at it, tasting it and swirling it around.

Anyway, it was simple and easy but kiddos asked to do it again. That's the beauty with simple, cheap experiments; you can do them over and over again and it's a teaching opportunity. Love it. You should try it too :)

Oobleck!

It was a cold day a few weeks ago, so while big sister was at school, my little ones and I played inside.

We made Oobleck again because Jake loves this stuff:

l

He could play with this mess foreverrrrrrr.

But Megan? Notsomuch.

LOL! She didn't like the way the cornstarch mixture stuck to her hands. She would start shrieking that her 'hand be stuck!!!'

I didn't wash her hands off immediately though, instead encouraging her to play with the Oobleck a little more to get comfortable with it. She was not happy with me. Clearly I was a mean mama, encouraging her to have fun and get messy in the process. I suppose I'm just into torture ;)

Lauren's Easter recital

Lauren's class did an Easter recital last week (8 songs). There's something about 20+ kids singing their hearts out to Jesus and singing praise to Him for dying on the cross for their sins. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a little teary eyed listening to them :)

Anyway, first they did it at school in the chapel:

and then a handful of them preformed at the opening day of Macy's at the mall:

They did a great job. Way to go AVCS kiddos :)

Spring break fun; Pajama Day!

It's Spring break this week, as well as last week so we've done lots of fun things to keep the kiddos (and myself!) from going insane! (On a side note; teenagers sleep in foreverrrrrrr when there's no school. We've seen Yo maybe one morning all of last week and that was when he finally awoke at 11:30am; crazy!)

Anyway. On Thursday last week, the kids had deemed it 'pajama day', so we headed over to Sarah's in our jammies.

The plan was to lounge around and bake all morning. Yeah, that didn't happen much. The girls decided that they'd rather play together than bake, so they spent the majority of their time doing that. They played girly things, of course.

And then there were the boys, who wanted nothing to do with girly. They spent the morning shouting stuff about punching people in the face and being bad guys :)

We did manage some baking time (and by we, I mean Sarah who made some delish muffins):

Crumbs, anyone??

Super fun morning with good friends. We love us some Sarah, Grace and Max! :)

Parties and bunny houses!

Lots of fun Easter activities going around around here! The weather's beautiful so we've been soaking it up outside with friends :)

We had an Easter egg hunt with the Kindergartners,

an Easter picnic lunch with the Preschoolers,

and our very own Haley came over to make edible cookie Bunny houses with the kids.

It's a great season to celebrate all that He has blessed us with and we're taking full advantage of that by loving our friends :)

PreK and Kinder cooking; Easter tombs!

I was super excited to do a cooking lesson with the kids this past week because 1) I love Easter and the reason we celebrate it and 2) I had an awesome inspiration; Easter tombs!

Before I began though, I read this story below and taught the kiddos about where Jesus was buried and why He had to die in the first place. It was sweet to hear it in their words :)

Oh! And before I got started in the Kinder room, they treated me to a dance they had learned, waving palm fronds and riding as donkeys, just as Jesus had done. It was too sweet :)

Anyway, back to the cooking!.

Each child got a graham cracker and spread a thin layer of peanut butter on it as glue (this is the floor). Then they each got a scoop of grass (coconut that I had dyed green) and they spread it out on the peanut butter cracker.

Then they added a donut hole (the tomb) and set in front of it an Oreo cookie, which symbolized the large rock rolled away from the entrance of the tomb.

Then I handed the preschoolers little flags that said "He is risen!'. And for the Kindergartners, I gave them their own flags to write themselves.

He is RISEN! The greatest news of all time, really!
