Banana baby

My aunt Judith went out to lunch a couple days ago with all three kids in tow... not really a relaxing meal, but we made it work ;)

It was close to Meg's naptime and she was getting grumpy and kind of inconsolable. I tried nursing her but she was too interested in her surroundings. As her fussing became more intense, I became more desperate. And then, I noticed a banana chunk on Lauren's pancakes.

Aha!

So I let her taste it, thinking it'd be at least a little distracting to her, and the girl ATTACKED it! Seriously, every time I went to take the banana away, she lunged at it and began to cry! By the time we were done with lunch, she sucked the banana 'til it was almost gone.

We have yet to try 'real solids' (rice cereal will be this week when she's officially 6 months) but here's my girl with her first non-breastmilk food... bananas in her mesh feeder :)

I think she likes it :)

Do you have any idea...

how much I loathe this stage?!?!

Yes, he's cute and all but seriously... this whole "they need to learn to self feed" thang is highly overrated.

And messy. And ridiculously sticky. So messy and sticky that self feeding = bathing. Pronto.

Note to self...

Yesterday as I was preparing for dinner, Lauren told me she wanted a "hock dog" for dinner. Well, I wasn't making "hock dogs" for dinner and told her we were having tacos. She told me "no tacos, Costco!". When I assured her that if we went to Costco, we would not be having frozen yogurt, as that what she usually associates Costco with. She agreed and said "Hock dogs only". And it wasn't a battle I was ready to fight, so when the Hubster got home from work, off to Costco we went.

So we get there and Justin says he'll share a hot dog with Jacob. I tell him he won't get very much because we don't call him "Moosey" for nothin'. He didn't believe me that Jacob would eat that much. So we bet each other. I bet him that Jacob would eat 3/4 of the hot dog and Justin said he would eat maybe half. Yes, I know 3/4 of a hot dog is big, esp. the Costco sized one. But I'm with him 24/7 and know he can pack away the pounds.

So Jacob eats 1/4 of the hot dog with no stop in sight. Then 1/2 of the hot dog, and Justin has yet to take a bite. Finally at 3/4 of the dog, Justin hands it over to me and tells me I won.

Uh huh.

This is where the note to self comes in: When your son eats an entire hot dog the night before, make sure your husband is around in the morning to change his diaper. Lemme tell you, a man-sized hot dog and a pretty beefy bun makes for a rather, ahem, loaded diaper.

Ugh.
